| Bio: | I hate writing bios. I am meant to write a summary of myself that is both pithy and witty, yet I end up wandering on tangents like Marcel Proust.
I'm married to ![[info]](http://p-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) crschmidt and the mother of two beautiful girls. I'm a student at Wellesley College. I have been variously described as an eccentric, as a bitch, as a sweetheart, as maternal, as cold, as dull, as quirky, and a number of other descriptive nouns that pass my notice at the moment.
I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a town that is directly across the Charles River from Boston. I have spent the vast majority of my life in northern New England. My father was raised on the coast of Maine on a farm where the major crop was rocks and a few thin blueberry bushes. My mother is from a part of Maine that is so far north that the majority of accepted currency is Canadian and she was the only pupil in her school that didn't speak French as their primary language. I have inherited their affection for small towns, but I have a hard time finding a decent espresso up there, so I stay happily urban. My husband grew up in a suburban wasteland and is as enamored as I am with our neighborhood of Cambridgeport, half-gentrified and half-not, half-ethnic and half-not, half-academic and half-not. Our flat is spacious and relaxing and has awesome Edwardian details intact as no one ever bothered to rip them out and modernize. I thank the neglect of previous tenants.
I've worked as a bartender, as an advocate for abused children, as an emergency medical technician, as a waitress, as a tutor of mathematics, as a breastfeeding educator, at a Planned Parenthood, and served in the army reserve as a combat medic, though without any deployments. I cook well. I don't clean well, so I hire it done. I used to play the piano well, and look forward to the day when I can afford an instrument again.
I struggle with mental illness, agoraphobia and depression, to be exact. I have hearing problems, and I write far better than I speak. As a severe insomniac, I crave sleep like a dipsomaniac craves alcohol. I have no idea how I survived the frequent wakings of infancy with my two daughters. I am quite nearly a bibliophage, and from the spot where I write this, I count fourteen books, all of which I am in various stages of reading. |
